Marketing 101: A Must Read!

You want to know if there is an inner attraction through conversation. You want to see if there is common ground, and a values orientation that is attractive on a deeper level.

One out of every five marriages today begins over the Internet. People have the opportunity to search out the common threads that bind a couple together. So dating – even if it starts with thoughtful exchanges online – has a way of filtering fluff from real substance, and can lead to a longer term relationship.

The same is true with marketing. Marketing is not selling. It is a means of garnering attention, sparking interest, and creating curiosity. It can even be one of subtly or even overtly sending a message, creating an image in the mind of a recipient, and ultimately forming a desire within for a product or service. Selling comes long after the marketing begins.

Patience and confidence in how you market is vital. Too often I hear stories of quick and dirty marketing or advertising campaigns, or social media efforts that are abandoned long before they have had time to take full effect and make a difference. Marketing is not for the faint of heart. It is for those who begin with the end in mind, who follow through with consistent and timely messaging, and for those who get the point across without giving up too soon.

Just as you don’t get married on the first date, you don’t close a sale with your first marketing pitch. Openness, honestly, sincere focus, thoughtfulness, and perseverance are all important in reaching your ultimate goal.
