Emotional Intelligence: What is it?

Emotional intelligence is a set of abilities that helps you relate effectively to people.  Those with high levels of emotional intelligence are self-aware and self-regulated.  They know and understand themselves, and they know how to adapt and flex with others.  Patience is one of their virtues, which makes them adept at using motivation, empathy, and social skills in communicating and collaborating with people.  In effect, they have an innate ability to get along with others.  But more than that, they know how to use encouragement as a way of inspiring, leading, and guiding people to maximum achievement.  If you don’t naturally possess the competencies of emotional intelligence, you can benefit from learning more about it and applying basic principles to improving your relationships.  Unless you live alone on an island somewhere, you’ll want to learn to work and live with others in a joyful, harmonious way.  Emotional intelligence will help you do just that.

On Social Norms….

  • Some people are clueless when it comes to emotional intelligence and social norms.  Consider these:
  • Talking too much, especially about yourself.  It’s not interesting.  It’s boring.
  • Talking too little, so as to hide behind the silence.  Also boring.
  • Going on a rant in front of others, especially those you don’t know.
  • Coming to work late on a regular basis.  What right do people think they have?
  • Crowding in line or simply pushing forward like no one else is there.  Really?
  • Spending an employer’s work time cruising the internet or talking on your cell phone.  Where’s the accountability?
  • Failing to say please or thank you.  Mother really was right…..

Here are a few Business & Life Tips to think about…..

Business Tips:

  • To be successful in business, keep costs under control, make customer service a priority, and hire bright, dedicated people.
  • When you lose a big potential sale, recap the process and try to understand why you lost it. Was it price, quality, value, or just you?
  • Less is better. Less personal hype and more third party endorsement really works. That’s what counts anyway.

Life Tips:

  • If you wait for everything to be perfect, or even just right, you will have waited too long. Begin your dream now, before it’s too late.
  • Don’t let negative energy from others sap your passion and drive. Get the negativity out of your life. You’ll soon be free to live.
  • Give generously to what you believe in and to those in need. You brought nothing into the world, and you’ll take nothing out of it.

“I needed help orchestrating a succession plan for our business. I had heard that Bill Boyajian specialized in assisting owners to transition their business to the next generation. He knows how to bridge the generation gap and deliver what each needs to hear. I would recommend Bill to any business owner who needs advice on succession planning from a trusted outside professional.”

"Our family needed some guidance on business transition and succession planning. We asked Bill Boyajian to help us because we knew we could trust him to tell us what we needed to hear. Bill became a valuable resource for our company and our entire family. He has the ability to meet each of us where we’re at and it has served us very well."

“We needed a plan to transition our business to a non-family member and we asked Bill Boyajian to help us. His experience in the area has really paid off, but we didn’t expect the added value of putting us together with a financial planner who helped organize our retirement needs. We now have the fundamentals to transition our business successfully, and we have Bill to thank for it.”
