Leverage Positive Attitude

Attitude isn’t everything, but it sure means a lot.

Over many years in leadership, I have found that most of a person’s success hinges on attitude. I’d rather have a person with a great attitude and lesser aptitude than one with great aptitude and a poor attitude.

Much of the way we look at life is a matter of choice. In Man’s Search for Meaning, Viktor Frankl claimed, “Everything can be taken from a man, but one thing: the last of human freedoms — to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” We can choose to be happy or choose to be sad. We can choose to see good or choose to see bad. We can’t always change our circumstances, but we can change the way we react to them. We can change ourselves. We really can. Abraham Lincoln said it this way: “I have noticed that folks are generally about as happy as they make up their minds to be.”

Happiness and joy are two different things. Happiness is a function of how things are going according to the circumstances around you, at the moment. Joy is an inner peace, not dependent on our specific circumstances. People of joy possess a rare level of calm, confidence, and contentment. They know who they are and where they stand. They are self-assured, with a seasoned demeanor.

Your attitude is crucial to your leadership because it demonstrates who you are and what you’re like on the inside. Our outer expressions are always a result of our inner feelings. Leaders put aside their personal preferences to get the job done. Ego is placed on the back burner. It’s the goal — and the results — that really matter.

Charismatic leaders can deal with just about anything. But negative, pessimistic people are some of the toughest. Sometimes you wish they would just sit in a corner and such on their lemon. Attitudes lead to actions and reflect on those around us.

As a leader, you must guard your attitude. A positive attitude is one of the traits you want to leverage in your leadership.

“I needed help orchestrating a succession plan for our business. I had heard that Bill Boyajian specialized in assisting owners to transition their business to the next generation. He knows how to bridge the generation gap and deliver what each needs to hear. I would recommend Bill to any business owner who needs advice on succession planning from a trusted outside professional.”

"Our family needed some guidance on business transition and succession planning. We asked Bill Boyajian to help us because we knew we could trust him to tell us what we needed to hear. Bill became a valuable resource for our company and our entire family. He has the ability to meet each of us where we’re at and it has served us very well."

“We needed a plan to transition our business to a non-family member and we asked Bill Boyajian to help us. His experience in the area has really paid off, but we didn’t expect the added value of putting us together with a financial planner who helped organize our retirement needs. We now have the fundamentals to transition our business successfully, and we have Bill to thank for it.”
