Do You Have a Plan?

Business plan, master plan, retirement plan, life plan. There are many plans to make, and frankly, we seldom make them.

If you’re like most of us, you have a hard time putting things in writing. To be honest, we seldom even take the time to think about life’s most important questions. And when we do, we tend to give it about as much attention as a throw-away project around the house.

Planning is crucial to your business and your life. We fail to do it because it’s hard work. It makes us think. It forces us to contemplate the “what if’s.” It creates a degree of tension we would prefer to avoid.

I encourage you to take whatever time is necessary to think and to plan what is important in your life. This could be the most valuable thing you do this year.

Facing a Difficult Decision or Crisis?

Sometimes we try to over-analyze things, but more often we come up short on having the necessary information to make a good decision. What happens then?

We tend to error on the side of extreme caution, or worse yet, find ourselves in a state of paralysis, where we freeze up and do nothing.

Truth is, sometimes the best decisions occur when you slow the process of decision-making down, or even bring it to a halt. Sometimes the best outcome is when no deal gets done. But that’s no excuse for not moving toward a decision that resolves a conflict, solves a problem, or remedies a situation that is out of control.

So next time you find yourself in a position where an important action seems eminent, take the time necessary to get all the information you need to make a thoughtful, well-reasoned decision. You’ll be glad you did, and so will those around you who are affected by your decision.

• Focus on what you can do for others, not on what you can get from them. Blessings will come back to you in ways you least expect.
• They say golf is 90% mental and the rest is in your head. Well, life is 90% attitude and the rest is pretty much there, too.
• If you want to enjoy marriage or a partnership, try meeting the person right where he/she is. i.e. Don’t try to fix them first.
