What To Do If You Lose Your Job

Losing your job – through being laid off or simply terminated – can be a frightening and depressing experience. Here are some things to consider if this happens to you or a loved one:

  • This sounds trite, but being out of work isn’t the worst thing that can happen to you.       You have life and can rebound from the challenge.
  • Shake off the blow to your ego and translate it to being grateful for the self-confidence you have. Don’t get down on yourself.
  • Take stock of your skills and experience, and what you truly love to do. Your unexpected change could be a blessing in disguise.
  • Get some counsel and advice from a trusted friend, someone who will help you no matter what.
  • Is it time to get that advanced degree you’ve long contemplated, or to consider a career change that has tempted you for years?
  • Network like crazy. You’ve done things for others. Maybe it’s time for them to do something for you.
  • Be open to something new or entirely different. Maybe you were in a rut or going nowhere anyway. Hitch your wagon to something with advancement potential.
  • Finally, be relentless in pursuit of what you really want. This is your chance to start fresh.

Here are a few Business & Life Tips to think about….

Business Tips:

  • Prepare yourself for your next assignment by doing excellent work in your current one. This is the very best way to get ahead.
  • When possible, hire with succession planning in mind. Look for leadership and potential, not just a warm body to fill a slot.
  • When things aren’t going well in business, it’s usually not the people or the process to blame. It’s the leadership and management.

Life Tips:

  • Go walk the dog. There’s something refreshing about it. You take time to get out and see things from another perspective.
  • You can choose to be happy or sad. It’s more about your attitude than your specific circumstances. Learn to count your blessings.
  • When you stop fretting about others and start to focus on changing yourself, you are on the way to re-discovering freedom.

“I needed help orchestrating a succession plan for our business. I had heard that Bill Boyajian specialized in assisting owners to transition their business to the next generation. He knows how to bridge the generation gap and deliver what each needs to hear. I would recommend Bill to any business owner who needs advice on succession planning from a trusted outside professional.”

"Our family needed some guidance on business transition and succession planning. We asked Bill Boyajian to help us because we knew we could trust him to tell us what we needed to hear. Bill became a valuable resource for our company and our entire family. He has the ability to meet each of us where we’re at and it has served us very well."

“We needed a plan to transition our business to a non-family member and we asked Bill Boyajian to help us. His experience in the area has really paid off, but we didn’t expect the added value of putting us together with a financial planner who helped organize our retirement needs. We now have the fundamentals to transition our business successfully, and we have Bill to thank for it.”
