Look for Clues

Our dog, Bailey, knows when my wife and I are about to leave the house.  He’ll watch us get dressed and see what we’re wearing.  Then he’ll find his comfort spot in the window seat in our living room where he has a direct view of the house and the garage to watch us leave, and ultimately see us when we come home.  Bailey also knows when I’m about to take him for a walk.  He knows what shoes I’m going to wear, and that I want my sunglasses and my phone with me, too.  And then he goes crazy with excitement because he loves to go for walks.  He also knows when he’s about to get a bath, and he’ll try to hide because he doesn’t like this hygienic necessity.

Bailey looks for clues to know what to do next.  Maybe many of us in business should learn to look for clues, too.  Clues from employees getting ready to quit; clues from customers ready to drop us; clues from our financials that indicate a problem is arising.  Too often, we miss clues that, if observed, would avert a crisis in business.  So why do we miss these clues?  We’re often too busy putting out fires to step back and look at our business through new eyes.  It happens in life, too.  Marriages don’t just end suddenly.  They erode over time as we miss clues that would tell us that two people are growing apart.

So if Bailey is smart enough to observe clues that indicate what is going to happen next, it makes sense that we should, too.  Take time to look for clues in business and life that indicate a change is about to take place.  You’ll find it much easier to avert major problems if you do.

“I needed help orchestrating a succession plan for our business. I had heard that Bill Boyajian specialized in assisting owners to transition their business to the next generation. He knows how to bridge the generation gap and deliver what each needs to hear. I would recommend Bill to any business owner who needs advice on succession planning from a trusted outside professional.”

"Our family needed some guidance on business transition and succession planning. We asked Bill Boyajian to help us because we knew we could trust him to tell us what we needed to hear. Bill became a valuable resource for our company and our entire family. He has the ability to meet each of us where we’re at and it has served us very well."

“We needed a plan to transition our business to a non-family member and we asked Bill Boyajian to help us. His experience in the area has really paid off, but we didn’t expect the added value of putting us together with a financial planner who helped organize our retirement needs. We now have the fundamentals to transition our business successfully, and we have Bill to thank for it.”
