Walking with Empathy

It happens all the time.  People suffer losses and need to grieve.  But one of the worst things you can do is to tell a grieving person that you “feel his pain.”  That undermines the very goal you have in trying to come alongside someone who needs your support.

So instead of rushing into a situation to try to help, walk beside someone first by connecting with their personal feelings.  People will know that they aren’t alone, and you will know what it truly means to show empathy.

Empathy works better with fewer words and warmer actions because connection brings healing.  So the next time you see someone hurting, practice thinking less of yourself and more of the person who needs your help.  Give your time and attention away.

Here are a few Business & Life Tips to think about….

Business Tips:

  • The best way to better your life is to support your friends and colleagues. Try giving more than taking. The return will be greater.
  • Learn to speak in an economy of words. People tune you out when you drone on, especially about yourself. Keep it short.
  • Do more than is expected in your work, for your client, or helping your friend. Few stand out as extraordinary. Be that person.

Life Tips:

  • Selfishness hurts relationships, but selflessness enhances them. It requires a sincere commitment to others, putting them first.
  • Volunteer your time to worthy nonprofits because they need your support. It also makes you feel good to know you’ve made a difference.
  • If we learn something each day, help someone each day, and bring joy to another each day, we can consider that a really good day.

“I needed help orchestrating a succession plan for our business. I had heard that Bill Boyajian specialized in assisting owners to transition their business to the next generation. He knows how to bridge the generation gap and deliver what each needs to hear. I would recommend Bill to any business owner who needs advice on succession planning from a trusted outside professional.”

"Our family needed some guidance on business transition and succession planning. We asked Bill Boyajian to help us because we knew we could trust him to tell us what we needed to hear. Bill became a valuable resource for our company and our entire family. He has the ability to meet each of us where we’re at and it has served us very well."

“We needed a plan to transition our business to a non-family member and we asked Bill Boyajian to help us. His experience in the area has really paid off, but we didn’t expect the added value of putting us together with a financial planner who helped organize our retirement needs. We now have the fundamentals to transition our business successfully, and we have Bill to thank for it.”
