When Work Is Play
March 18th, 2020
by Bill Boyajian

We are all artists of some kind.

If you’re reading this, you know that I like to write.  Writing is a form of self-expression that I enjoy.

My wife is a great quilter.  If you ask her why she quilts, she’ll tell you she likes to play with color.  Using color in fabric gives her joy.  It’s tedious work to quilt, but it’s more like play to quilters.  And their final products are works of art.

A close friend of mine is a fabulous gardener.  It’s a lot of work to garden the way he does.  If you ask him about the work, he’ll say it’s cathartic to garden and more like play.

Another friend works with wood and creates magnificent furniture and objects of art. He does it as a hobby, so it’s his form of self-expression.  His creations are magnificent pieces of art.

Another friend plays instruments, composes songs, and even sings them with great skill.  More art.

You’ve heard the term child’s play.  These are examples of adult play.  Whether you’re writing or quilting or gardening or wood-working or composing, you’re engaging in a form of art and self-expression.

When work is play, it isn’t work at all.  It’s art, a way of expressing ourselves and bringing joy.

“I needed help orchestrating a succession plan for our business. I had heard that Bill Boyajian specialized in assisting owners to transition their business to the next generation. He knows how to bridge the generation gap and deliver what each needs to hear. I would recommend Bill to any business owner who needs advice on succession planning from a trusted outside professional.”

"Our family needed some guidance on business transition and succession planning. We asked Bill Boyajian to help us because we knew we could trust him to tell us what we needed to hear. Bill became a valuable resource for our company and our entire family. He has the ability to meet each of us where we’re at and it has served us very well."

“We needed a plan to transition our business to a non-family member and we asked Bill Boyajian to help us. His experience in the area has really paid off, but we didn’t expect the added value of putting us together with a financial planner who helped organize our retirement needs. We now have the fundamentals to transition our business successfully, and we have Bill to thank for it.”
