Good Leaders Possess Sound Judgment
March 8th, 2012
by Bill Boyajian

Good leaders possess sound judgment. Sound judgment is the result of gaining knowledge, acquiring wisdom through the understanding of this knowledge, and then formulating intelligent choices and decisions as a result of it. Judgment, like character itself, is one of life’s great intangibles.

You can have wonderful leadership qualities, but if they aren’t grounded in wise decisions and sound judgment, your leadership will wane and you will be surrounded with perplexing problems. Moreover, you won’t understand why things seem to go wrong all the time and why you don’t have any easy answers.

It is hard to attain a leadership position without good judgment, much less hold on to it once you’ve got it.

I knew a woman who was blessed with intelligence, experience, and terrific people skills, but she continued to limit her advancement because she made poor judgments. In personnel reviews she would score high in virtually all categories, except judgment. Despite counseling and encouragement, she could never rise above her current level. Eventually she left her firm a somewhat frustrated, yet talented individual.

Good judgment is essential for leaders. You just can’t lead effectively without it.

“I needed help orchestrating a succession plan for our business. I had heard that Bill Boyajian specialized in assisting owners to transition their business to the next generation. He knows how to bridge the generation gap and deliver what each needs to hear. I would recommend Bill to any business owner who needs advice on succession planning from a trusted outside professional.”

"Our family needed some guidance on business transition and succession planning. We asked Bill Boyajian to help us because we knew we could trust him to tell us what we needed to hear. Bill became a valuable resource for our company and our entire family. He has the ability to meet each of us where we’re at and it has served us very well."

“We needed a plan to transition our business to a non-family member and we asked Bill Boyajian to help us. His experience in the area has really paid off, but we didn’t expect the added value of putting us together with a financial planner who helped organize our retirement needs. We now have the fundamentals to transition our business successfully, and we have Bill to thank for it.”
