When it comes to effort, there are three kinds of employees. The first is those who put in minimal effort, do the least they can to get by, suffer poor to mediocre performance, and yet are kept on staff for reasons that are hard to comprehend. The second type is those who do exactly what is expected, put in the time necessary, do their job well, and are viewed as good overall employees. The third kind of employee is extraordinary because they put in extra effort, well more than any owner or manager would expect. They do their job so well and efficiently that they seek additional duties and take responsibility for things that no one else wants to do. These are people who put in additional time and provide superior customer service. They are stars you dream about and promote for their effort and abilities. They are worth their weight in gold. The greatest asset of every firm is its most valuable people. If there was ever a time to reward them, it is now.
