Grace
July 23rd, 2023
by Bill Boyajian

A colleague and I were in India enroute to visit some important potential clients of a firm for which we were consulting.  I was wearing some white linen trousers and we were traveling by train to meet the clients.  During lunch, my colleague opened a packet of ketchup that splattered all over my white linen pants.  He was horrified and apologetic as we frantically tried to clean things up, yet without much success.

We’ve all been the recipient of such a spill, and likely also the culprit on occasion.  Mistakes happen, and even if carelessness is at fault, no one tries to do such harm intentionally.  Yet we witness people reacting to such mishaps in many different ways.  No one feels worse than the person who created such a problem, but we can ease their pain by being gracious and understanding instead of rude and disgusted.

There are few personal traits as meaningful as grace.  Grace softens even the harshest realities of life, but seldom do we see it exhibited.  If we can learn to put things in perspective – offering kindness over criticism – our relationships would improve immeasurably.  When no great harm is really done, we can put others at ease with our own understanding.

This doesn’t keep me from teasing my colleague about our India experience.  Frankly, even this eases the pain he felt over what we can now laugh about.  So the next time you’re the recipient of a mishap caused with no intention, offer the person some grace and see how that makes a difference.

“I needed help orchestrating a succession plan for our business. I had heard that Bill Boyajian specialized in assisting owners to transition their business to the next generation. He knows how to bridge the generation gap and deliver what each needs to hear. I would recommend Bill to any business owner who needs advice on succession planning from a trusted outside professional.”

"Our family needed some guidance on business transition and succession planning. We asked Bill Boyajian to help us because we knew we could trust him to tell us what we needed to hear. Bill became a valuable resource for our company and our entire family. He has the ability to meet each of us where we’re at and it has served us very well."

“We needed a plan to transition our business to a non-family member and we asked Bill Boyajian to help us. His experience in the area has really paid off, but we didn’t expect the added value of putting us together with a financial planner who helped organize our retirement needs. We now have the fundamentals to transition our business successfully, and we have Bill to thank for it.”
