Live at Peace

by Bill Boyajian

I consult and coach a lot of people in various stages of life and business.  I get to see a lot of successes, but I also witness a lot of heartache and brokenness, especially in family businesses.  Fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, cousins, in-laws.  You name it.  Issues abound.

When parents don’t get along with children and the generation gap gets too wide to traverse, frustration builds and grows to anger and often separation.  From my experience, the most prevalent issue is with fathers and sons.  Fathers don’t like the way sons want to work today and sons think that fathers are out of touch and uncaring.  There’s usually truth on both sides, with neither side willing to compromise.  It is always the case that one person has to be big enough, secure enough, and strong enough to place ego aside for the betterment of everyone involved.  But it doesn’t happen very often and people continue to be plagued with anguish and bitterness.

Why is it so hard to live at peace with people, often those closest to us in our families and in the workplace?  Pride gets in the way of our ability to be gracious and appreciative of what we have and the relationships that are so important to us.  For sure, we won’t be able to get along with everyone, but I’ve found that being nice, being gentle, being thoughtful, being kind, and being fair keeps a lot of minor issues from becoming major problems.

Live at peace with one another.  It’s a better way to live.

“I needed help orchestrating a succession plan for our business. I had heard that Bill Boyajian specialized in assisting owners to transition their business to the next generation. He knows how to bridge the generation gap and deliver what each needs to hear. I would recommend Bill to any business owner who needs advice on succession planning from a trusted outside professional.”

"Our family needed some guidance on business transition and succession planning. We asked Bill Boyajian to help us because we knew we could trust him to tell us what we needed to hear. Bill became a valuable resource for our company and our entire family. He has the ability to meet each of us where we’re at and it has served us very well."

“We needed a plan to transition our business to a non-family member and we asked Bill Boyajian to help us. His experience in the area has really paid off, but we didn’t expect the added value of putting us together with a financial planner who helped organize our retirement needs. We now have the fundamentals to transition our business successfully, and we have Bill to thank for it.”
