Oh, Technology
June 28th, 2018
by Bill Boyajian

My wife and I were at a restaurant the other night and noticed a family of four having dinner near us.  For most of the time we were there, both the adults and the children were glued to their digital devices.  We were shocked.  Don’t get me wrong.  I embrace technology as a powerful tool for both work and play.  But when I see a family buried in their smart phones during dinner out, I wonder if we’ve taken things too far.

Children are being raised with technology that provides tremendous intelligence at their fingertips.  But it may well constrict their ability to socialize effectively and interact with people confidently.  I don’t have an answer for this, except to say that some form of moderation and balance is needed.  I get that technology can be addicting and that’s why I suggest some reasonable restrictions on ourselves and our children.  Of course, if we can’t get off our devices, we can hardly set a good example for our youth.

So when we can’t go to a restaurant or be out with friends or go to bed without being married to our phones, something is wrong.  We are social beings who need connection, but I question whether that connection must always be with an electronic pacifier.

I welcome your thoughts.

“I needed help orchestrating a succession plan for our business. I had heard that Bill Boyajian specialized in assisting owners to transition their business to the next generation. He knows how to bridge the generation gap and deliver what each needs to hear. I would recommend Bill to any business owner who needs advice on succession planning from a trusted outside professional.”

"Our family needed some guidance on business transition and succession planning. We asked Bill Boyajian to help us because we knew we could trust him to tell us what we needed to hear. Bill became a valuable resource for our company and our entire family. He has the ability to meet each of us where we’re at and it has served us very well."

“We needed a plan to transition our business to a non-family member and we asked Bill Boyajian to help us. His experience in the area has really paid off, but we didn’t expect the added value of putting us together with a financial planner who helped organize our retirement needs. We now have the fundamentals to transition our business successfully, and we have Bill to thank for it.”
