Every career and every job has its ups and downs. But if you’re really tired and unhappy with your career direction or your work, here’s something to consider: 1. Jot down a few things you really enjoy doing. For me, it’s writing, speaking, and coaching. For you, it might be drawing, creating, or working with your hands. 2. Now jot down a few things that you’re really good at. And don’t be shy. 3. Examine the two lists and see if there is overlap in what you like to do and what you’re really good at doing. 4. Then ask yourself if you can earn a living doing what you love to do and also what you’re good at doing. If the answer is yes, you may well have found a new career direction or work preference. Even if you’re not in a rut, this is a good exercise to do every few years.
