The Beauty of a Day
July 23rd, 2023
by Bill Boyajian

I wrote a piece on how we tend to overestimate what we can do in a day and underestimate what we can do in a week.  I went on to say that we overestimate what we can do in a week and underestimate what we can do in a month, and so on for a year or five years or a decade or even a lifetime.

But one of the great units of time we have at our disposal is a day.  The sun comes up and the sun goes down.  In the wintertime the sun is less prevalent so we tend to feel the days are shorter, but we still have the same 24 hours.  Our problem is we try to cram too many things into one day.

Everyone has the same amount of time each day, so when you can get a chunk of things done – or even just one very important thing – and can string those days into a week, or a month, or six months, you really have something.  Building a significant body of work requires an investment of time – usually a lot of time, maybe even a lifetime – but it is never done in a day or a week or a month or even a year.  It is done over the course of time.

The beauty of each day is that it has a beginning and an end that we can wrap our heads around.  There is a rhythm to each day that seems to flow.  Of course, it doesn’t flow so well when we try to cram too much in it and get mired in the “weeds” of each day.  We need to leave a little time for margin in our life, with a list of important things that must be done.

In the end, there is only today.  Yesterday is gone and tomorrow is yet unseen.  We exist for today, so we must make the most of it.

“I needed help orchestrating a succession plan for our business. I had heard that Bill Boyajian specialized in assisting owners to transition their business to the next generation. He knows how to bridge the generation gap and deliver what each needs to hear. I would recommend Bill to any business owner who needs advice on succession planning from a trusted outside professional.”

"Our family needed some guidance on business transition and succession planning. We asked Bill Boyajian to help us because we knew we could trust him to tell us what we needed to hear. Bill became a valuable resource for our company and our entire family. He has the ability to meet each of us where we’re at and it has served us very well."

“We needed a plan to transition our business to a non-family member and we asked Bill Boyajian to help us. His experience in the area has really paid off, but we didn’t expect the added value of putting us together with a financial planner who helped organize our retirement needs. We now have the fundamentals to transition our business successfully, and we have Bill to thank for it.”
