The Outlier Takes You Down
May 25th, 2021
by Bill Boyajian

Most owners or managers have one person that is a thorn in his or her side. It’s a person who doesn’t quite fit into the culture of the organization, is somewhat condescending, or even downright insubordinate. Yet little, if anything, is ever done about it.

The owner or manager keeps putting up with this person for reasons that are hard to comprehend. Every person in your employ deserves plenty of opportunity to improve and to excel, but when the number of chances reaches what most would consider a natural limit, something must give.

The person who defies the culture of a business, treats co-workers poorly, or aggravates owners to the point of frustration and anger is the one who has to go. My advice: lay the law down and when the person does what he always does, he’s in effect terminated himself.

The peace of mind that comes from removing the irritant is hard to imagine, but once you do it, you realize how that one was damaging the morale of everyone in your business. The cloud gets lifted. So do yourself a favor and strengthen your resolve to do what’s best for you and your associates. You’ll be glad you did.

“I needed help orchestrating a succession plan for our business. I had heard that Bill Boyajian specialized in assisting owners to transition their business to the next generation. He knows how to bridge the generation gap and deliver what each needs to hear. I would recommend Bill to any business owner who needs advice on succession planning from a trusted outside professional.”

"Our family needed some guidance on business transition and succession planning. We asked Bill Boyajian to help us because we knew we could trust him to tell us what we needed to hear. Bill became a valuable resource for our company and our entire family. He has the ability to meet each of us where we’re at and it has served us very well."

“We needed a plan to transition our business to a non-family member and we asked Bill Boyajian to help us. His experience in the area has really paid off, but we didn’t expect the added value of putting us together with a financial planner who helped organize our retirement needs. We now have the fundamentals to transition our business successfully, and we have Bill to thank for it.”
