Is 80% of Success Just Showing Up?

Woody Allen made his “80% of Success is Showing Up” line famous, but is that enough? For sure, you have to show up, but it’s what you do with the other 20% that really matters.

Too often, people just don’t show up. But even when they do, it’s more about going through the motions than it is making a real contribution to the job, the team, the home, the committee, or any other organized entity they’re a part of.

The extra 20% is about attitude, dedication, innovation, and other aspects that set you apart. It’s the emotional intelligence, responsibility, and creativity you bring that makes much more of a difference than just showing up.

So the next time you find yourself in the doldrums – just going through the motions with little if any energy or vitality – ask yourself if just showing up is enough for you. If it isn’t, do something about it.

Here are a few Business & Life Tips to think about….

Business Tips:

  • Good leaders have a sense of balance between fearing competition and being confident in what is being done to compete with it.
  • Your product or service doesn’t speak for itself. You need to speak for it. Better yet, have others speak for it for greater credibility.
  • If your employee can’t put his smart phone away during work hours, it’s both your problem and your fault. Deal with it.

Life Tips:

  • If you really want to impact the way people think, conduct yourself in a way that inspires trust, kindness, and care for others.
  • If we learn how to prioritize our day around just a few key issues, it will force us to get the most urgent and important things done first.
  • If common sense was so common, we wouldn’t have to remind people to use it. Some people are just clueless, while others are astute.

“I needed help orchestrating a succession plan for our business. I had heard that Bill Boyajian specialized in assisting owners to transition their business to the next generation. He knows how to bridge the generation gap and deliver what each needs to hear. I would recommend Bill to any business owner who needs advice on succession planning from a trusted outside professional.”

"Our family needed some guidance on business transition and succession planning. We asked Bill Boyajian to help us because we knew we could trust him to tell us what we needed to hear. Bill became a valuable resource for our company and our entire family. He has the ability to meet each of us where we’re at and it has served us very well."

“We needed a plan to transition our business to a non-family member and we asked Bill Boyajian to help us. His experience in the area has really paid off, but we didn’t expect the added value of putting us together with a financial planner who helped organize our retirement needs. We now have the fundamentals to transition our business successfully, and we have Bill to thank for it.”
