Problem Solving

If you’re in business, or even if you aren’t, a lot of your life is spent solving problems.  If you get to your car in the morning and see that a tire is low, maybe you picked up a nail.  You need to check it.  If your customer comes back into the store to complain about something she purchased, you need to know how to deal with her, and then do it with care and finesse.  If you have an employee who needs correction, you need to know how to counsel him tactfully and clearly to get your point across.

Many things in life and business center around solving a problem, fixing a sticky situation, or correcting a behavior.  The issue is so prevalent, and important, one might wonder why we don’t have curricula in middle school or high school on problem solving.  We want to teach students to gain knowledge and to be smart, but what we need to teach them is how to solve problems, how to deal with people, and how to gain wisdom.  Unfortunately, we tend to wait until it may be too late to try to teach basic human skills.

If you want to find a good employee or even a good manager, look for someone who is pleasant by nature, fundamentally competent, and knows how to solve problems.  If you want to be that person, demonstrate a high degree of personal responsibility, have a consistently good attitude, and show that you can get things done.  There you have it: problem solved.

Here are a few Business & Life Tips to think about….

Business Tips:

  • The best way to get ahead where you work is to seek greater responsibility, demonstrate professionalism, and deliver results.
  • If you are a leader, you need to keep people informed. Knowledgeable people are understanding people.
  • An effective family counsel is one of the best ways to create good, honest communication in a family business.

Life Tips:

  • Wisdom can’t be gained in a day, but it can be gained daily. Making consistently good choices is a sign of living a life of wisdom.
  • Most problems with people occur due to poor or nonexistent communication, or differing expectations. Talk things out and get clear on what you expect.
  • Attitude trumps aptitude in most cases because smart people can gain skills in needed areas, particularly when their attitude is good.

“I needed help orchestrating a succession plan for our business. I had heard that Bill Boyajian specialized in assisting owners to transition their business to the next generation. He knows how to bridge the generation gap and deliver what each needs to hear. I would recommend Bill to any business owner who needs advice on succession planning from a trusted outside professional.”

"Our family needed some guidance on business transition and succession planning. We asked Bill Boyajian to help us because we knew we could trust him to tell us what we needed to hear. Bill became a valuable resource for our company and our entire family. He has the ability to meet each of us where we’re at and it has served us very well."

“We needed a plan to transition our business to a non-family member and we asked Bill Boyajian to help us. His experience in the area has really paid off, but we didn’t expect the added value of putting us together with a financial planner who helped organize our retirement needs. We now have the fundamentals to transition our business successfully, and we have Bill to thank for it.”
